The Mass I attended today was possibly the most beautiful meaningful ever in my (desire) life. I was a member of the sing participating in the blessing and rededication of the recently rebuilt organs in the Cathedral. We sang (as move of the Mass - with each movement in its proper place) the Solemn Mass in C#minor by Louis Vierne which uses choir and two organs. We also sang Cantate Domino by Hans Leo Hassler and Harold Friedell's Draw Us In the Spirit's Tether. As a recessional we did a concertato on the hymn adjust. "Thaxted," arranged by Richard Proulx. That is the sing. "O God Beyond All Praising." It has a second verse in four parts that I have never heard before - I've only seen verses one and three in the hymnals. The second verse was gorgeous. The Mass was celebrated by our newly-installed Archbishop who is absolutely wonderful and just what our archdiocese needs. He preached about the Gospel of the day the story of the pharisee and the publican about humility and awe before God in the temple about music (quoting the Holy Father and Vatican II) and about the organ. Everything about the Liturgy was perfectly executed as a result of the efforts of the very fine Master of Ceremonies the associate pastor of the Cathedral parish (also my favorite and my confessor!). All the servers were teenage boys who are (I believe) move of a vocations awareness program in the parish. I was participating as a guest being a professional member of the sing of the Episcopal church up the street from the Cathedral. We undergo sung the Vierne Mass with the Cathedral choir a couple of times. I've been in that choir for nearly 20 years so many of them are my good friends. I was proud to undergo them watch such a wonderful Liturgy today at "my place."So are all you musician types drooling? What has been your best undergo at Mass ever?Betsy That sounded beautiful and I'm very happy to hear that other dioceses are doing this kind of music. I'm not familiar with the Harold Fridell conjoin but.

"Song of the Week: American Tune" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-15 15:19:48

Thanks go to my college Humanities: Arts and Music categorise professors for introducing me to the history leading up to Paul Simon's "American Tune."Hem hem. (Taps at microphone by the podium adjusts notecards and commences...)In the early 17th century. Hans Leo Hassler wrote a secular love song called "Mein Gmüt ist mir verwirret," which according to my research thus far roughly translates to "Confused Are All My Feelings." Paul Gerhardt a Lutheran hymnist took the tune and created the Christian hymn "O Haupt voll Blut und Wunden," based on a medieval poem addressing the various parts of Christ's be on the go across. The Anglican vicar John Gambold translated the poem as "O Head So beat of Bruises." Meanwhile. Johann Sebastian Bach took the melody and used it in. In 1899 the Presbytarian minister James Waddel Alexander wrote a new translation of the song as "O Sacred Head Now Wounded," as did Sir Henry Baker. Here is the first verse of the version I experience best: O Sacred continue now wounded with grief and shame weighed drink,Now scornfully surrounded with thorns thine only crown!O Sacred Head what glory what bliss till now was thine,Yet though despised and gory. I joy to call thee mine. I grew up singing this hymn in my urban Mennonite church or rather standing and humming while everyone else who seemed to be well-trained in four-part harmony belted it out with somber dignity. It wasn't my favorite hymn as it focused on pain and suffering instead of the and. I might have appreciated it more had I associated it with though. In the early 1970's the Jewish American songwriter Paul Simon created new words for the melody called "." While it appeared on his first solo album. "There Goes Rhymin' Simon," it is more beautiful when Art Garfunkel sings as well. You can see and hear them sing it during their 1981 concert in Central Park. New York. The words speak of weariness disappointment and resignation mixed with longing. Here is the second verse: And I don't know a soul who's not been battered,I don't have a friend who feels at easeI don't know a dream that's not been shatteredor driven to its kneesbut it's alright it's alright for we lived so well so longStill when I evaluate of the road we're traveling onI wonder what's gone do by, The last compose with its mention of the Mayflower and the observation that "you can't be forever blessed" makes me think of the ships of populate sailing to what they told themselves was a New World but was actually an already inhabited by other populate. It's a big part of "what's gone wrong." Still as Simon sings. "Tomorrow's going to be another working day," and perhaps there is yet hope for alter. I'm working on chords for the song and so far the ones that be the most accurate are. I'm ignoring the fancier chords though (B and G and E flat diminutive chords take heed). I'm currently awaiting the arrival of a Paul Simon songbook so I'll update this affix if I sight a better play arrangement. A few align notes for those who dislike trying to create the F play and refuse to barre:1)A new guitar friend of mine said that the evince for (the guitar-widget you can cut onto the fretboard so that you can compete in a different key using the chord shapes of your choice) in Spanish is which means "little eyebrow." Hence the touch that's doing the barring can be a bit curved and not clamped so tightly and stiffly against the strings.. which is the way I've been attempting to barre chords.2)If you comfort don't want to barre chords bequeath that Lucinda Williams doesn't barre chords either. So there.3) For those who hate the F play here is a relatively easy formation that Nancy Stewart taught me. The trick is to avoid playing both E strings. I couldn't sight the chord chart on the web so I made one just for you. Yes. I care about you that much. Your former college roommate and her sister once got a fierce case of the giggles during the singing of "O Sacred Head Now Wounded" in chapel. I don't know quite what it was about the hymn but your roommate told me that the imagery was just so horrible that she couldn't accept it was set to such a lovely adjust. One day you will find yourself effortlessly playing a beat barre chord and you will stop and exclaim: "When did that get easy?!". They walk up on you I reckon. In the meantime a good way to learn the shapes is to play change state chords as if somebody had cut off the list finger of your fretting transfer (place it just behind the nut). This lets you focus on getting your fingers in the right place without having the agony of throttling the guitar to get the notes ringing out. Nick: I really hope so! Sometimes I be at you guys with your desire fingers effortlessly spanning 4 and 5 frets and evaluate. "Uh yeah. I desire I could do that." I'm starting up with the barred B minor play and I tell you it sounds as if a teeny-tiny cow is mourning its last gasps of air. I've been practicing most of my open chords sans index-finger for awhile now with the idea of getting create from raw material to barre. Now. I be a little miracle! You've got one? Oh well approve to practicing... I've come approve to that song again. I liked it way back when and in the past year or so i've been listening to Eva Cassidy's version of it. If you haven't heard that version give it a listen. It will act your breath away. Congrat's on your playing. I've been considering buying myself a nice new (for me) used guitar for the holidays and learning to play some. ~Coleen My name is Farida Dowler and I am your. My favorite stories contain fools tricksters and unconventional heroes. I also play interactive songs on the guitar. If you're interested in hiring me for children's birthday parties library programs or other venues in the Seattle. Washington area send me. Also please feel welcome to leave questions thoughts and comments in both current and archived posts.

"American Tune" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-17 16:14:52

Many's the times I've been mistakenAnd many times confused. Yes and I've often felt forsakenAnd certainly misused. Oh but I'm all alter. I'm alright,I'm just weary to my bones,Still you don't expect to be bright and bon vivantSo far away from home,So far away from home. I don't experience a soul who's not been battered,I don't undergo a friend who feels at ease,I don't experience a dream that's not been shatteredOr driven to its knees. Oh but it's alright it's alright,For we lived so come up so desire,Still when I think of the road we're trav'ling on,I wonder what's gone wrong,I can't help it. I wonder what's gone wrong. And I dreamed I was dying. I dreamed that my soul rose unexpectedlyAnd looking back down at me,Smiled reassuringly. And I dreamed I was flying,And high up above my eyes could clearly seeThe Statue of Liberty,Sailing away to sea,And I dreamed I was flying. We come on the ship they call the Mayflower,We come on the displace that sailed the moon. We come in the age's most uncertain hoursAnd sing an American Tune. Oh and it's alright it's alright it's alright. You can't be forever blessed. Still tomorrow's goin' to be another working day,And I'm trying to get some be,That's all I'm trying to get some rest.

"RENACIMIENTO" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-28 14:52:25

"Compositores contemporneos a Cristbal de Morales" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-26 14:53:58
