"Ultimate Leopard Tweaking Guide" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-11-13 12:36:18

No matter how good Apple Mac OS X Leopard is there will always be features that people dislike and want to change. And while Apple may think they have the perfect recipe for a perfect OS many power-users will want to tweak OS X to their liking. They want to change more than their desktop image or the icons in their dock. Sometimes Apple doesn’t always make it easy to tweak your Mac so Appletell has compiled a list of several ways to tweak your Leopard. The Dock: Ever since Steve Jobs announced the 3D Leopard Dock at WWDC there has been some mild skepticism to say the least. DockDoctor allows you to easily switch between the 2D and the 3D Leopard dock whether you have the dock on the bottom or the sides of your screen. : If you actually like the 3D dock there are many ways to tweak it exactly to your liking. DockColor is a small app with a very simple interface. It allows you to easily change the color of your 3D dock to suit your desire. and : If you really want to go all the way these two websites are for you. They are filled with hundreds of different docks (both vertical and horizontal) and allow you to easily install the docks or even switch back to the original. Stacks: Stacks are supposed to un-clutter your desktop but sometimes it is hard to distinguish one stack from another. Stack Drawers are little overlays that help you to organize all of your stacks and actualy make Stacks a whole lot more useful. : The perfect companion to Stack Drawers. Stacks In Da Place lets you make any icon of your choosing an overlay of any of your stacks. It automatically detects all your Stacks and let you drag any icon to become a stack overlay. : Many Mac OS X users complained when Apple took away the functionality in Leopard of navigating a folders heirchy from the Dock. Quay is a little app that allows you to re-add this functionality in Leopard. Recent Items Stack: This is a simple terminal command that adds a Stack to your Dock that has the 10 most recent documents applications or servers. Simply type the terminal cpmmand and then type “killall Dock” and the Stack will be added to your Dock. defaults write com apple dock persistent-others -array-add ‘{ “tile-data” = { “list-type” = 1; }; “tile-type” = “recents-tile”; }’ The Menu Bar: One of the most controversial “features” of Leopard is the slightly transparent menu bar. Some find it distracting and others find it pointless. OpaqueMenuBar makes your Leopard menu bar solid like back in Tiger. : If you don’t want your menu bar a simple opaque you can make it as colorful as you want. A red green blue or yellow menu bar may now sound that appealing but if you can do it why not? Icons: Candybar is the greatest application for changing icons on the Mac. While it is shareware there is a free fully functional trial and it is really worth the cost of admission. : Partnering with CandyBar. IconFactory is a great resource for free Mac icons that can be used to replace Apple’s defaults or even for special folders. And it integrates seamlessly with CandyBar. Login Window: This is a really cool app that allows you total customization over your login window. You can change the background image add an icon change the name and even choose specific information to display. DefaultDesktop jpg: If you prefer to do things the old fashioned way you can simple replace the image located at /System/Library/CoreServices/DeafaultDesktop jpg and the next time you log in it will be set to your background to your customized image. iChat: Chax is the ultimate plugin for iChat. It adds a ton of functionality to iChat like a unified Contact list. Screensaver away messages. Growl messages and auto-accepting of chat invites. If you are a hard-core iChat user. Chax is really a must-have. : iChat comes with some pretty niffty effects but if you want to be a hologram from Star Wars or the Statue of Liberty. MoreiChatEffects is a fun addition to the many effects that come with iChat. : This website is a community dedicated to coming out with new iChat effects and plugins. They have some very active forums with many users making Quartz designs for iChat effects. QuickLook: QuickLook is undoubtedly one of the coolest features in Leopard. This plugin is easy to install and allows you to use QuickLook to see inside folders. : Another QuickLook plugin that actually allows you to see the files inside Zip files without even opening them. Very handy. Other: Another feature that was removed in Leopard but was previously in Tiger was the rounded look of the corners. Dispalperture is a background process that allows you to round the corners of your screen to regain rounded look that was in Tiger. : Not specifically a Leopard tweak but handy nonetheless fonts500 com is a great website with 500 high-quality free fonts. If you are ever looking for a way to jazz up a document on your Mac fonts500 is a great place to look for some cool fonts. InterfaceLift is one of the greatest sites for tweaking your machine whether you are on a PC or a Mac. They have thousands of free icons desktops and themes for Mac and PCs alike and are constantly being updated. Extra [Direct Link]: As an extra we have compiled over 30 Automator actions specifically designed to enhance your Leopard experience and make Leopard work in exactly the way you want it to. is there a typo on the site? There is above in the text where command is spelled “cpmmand” on January 2. 2008 at 07:43 PM - The “Recent Items Stack” is plagued by curly apostrophes and quotes. Try this instead: defaults write com apple dock persistent-others -array-add ‘{ “tile-data” = { “list-type” = 1; }; “tile-type” = “recents-tile”; }’ DockDoctor DOES NOT work if you have the dock on the side. None of these mods do. Please actually test things before you link them - DockDr even says in its gui that it doesn’t do what you say it does on January 6. 2008 at 11:01 AM - Will Apple ever allow users to make custom changes to the appearance of the GUI as in a theme without the need for third party software like shapeshifter? Or at least give us more options to choose from when it comes to the appearance of our desktops and themes on April 19. 2008 at 03:25 AM - Go into system preferences choose Desktop and Screen Saver then underneath where you choose your desktop picture there is a simple little check box to turn on and off your translucent menu bar.

Sagittarius (November 22 - December 21)Your January Horoscope by Susan MillerLast year you started a whole new cycle for Jupiter the giver of gifts and luck was in Sagittarius and encouraged you to move your wings and show the world what you could do. The year 2007 was to be your golden year and if you worked hard on your dream you will now see it take flight in a very material tangible way in 2008. You may be saying to yourself. "come up gee um. I guess last year was OK but maybe not THAT great!" Realize that you need to be a little patient. We hardly ever see results while we are in the turn but later afterwards in hindsight we realize that all the most important things in our lives started during that golden year. Last month on December 18 you entered into your back up phase - the gestation period - when the seeds you sowed last year would mouth to come up in your garden. The harder you worked in 2007 the bigger your cut in the coming year. With a new idle appearing on January 8 in your 2nd house of earned income you won't undergo to wait long to see financial recognise. Soon after that new moon appears it looks desire you'll be hearing unexpected news about a new source of income or an increase from the source you have now. News ordain be unexpected because Uranus will bring home the bacon closely with this new idle adding a certain thrilling element of surprise. I've not seen a financial full moon this friendly in a long measure and considering how heavy your expenses have been since the end of September this has to be great news! Saturn is currently retrograde so after this taskmaster planet moves direct on May 2 you can expect even better financial rewards to come your way later in the year. What's more. Pluto the planet associated with wealth and power is also heading to your 2nd accommodate of income which is stunningly good news for you too. To have Jupiter in this house alone would be headline news but to have both well that is saying something! What's more. Pluto will ensure that the financial emphasis that you are about to see coming up now will not be a passing trend but one that will have real staying power - we are talking years here!Pluto is a very powerful planet because it is open on the outermost regions of our solar system. The farther a planet is from the Sun the longer it takes to circle the Sun and the longer it gets to stay in each sign and in each accommodate of the horoscope. Good fortune planet Jupiter will spend a full year in your income sector (2nd house) until January.

Vitalist and others depending on my mood. alter now. I’m using my Moleskine pocket notebook.) There are other online apps I use most notable among them explore Reader. What about backups? I don’t actually do backups for the most part. All the companies I use to store my information online backup the information themselves. However even if there were a problem. I wouldn’t desire any of the information really except my blog. And I do backup my communicate. However if you wanted to backup your information it wouldn’t be hard to do it yourself — you could use your hard control or web storage in a different location and just deliver new or modified files every day or once a week. What about privacy? This is a real issue for some people and I won’t deny it. However. I don’t really think explore employees (or whatever company I’m using) have time to read through everyone’s files and change surface if they read mine. I don’t undergo anything secret in my documents. If that’s an issue for you for whatever reason online work would be more difficult. You could encrypt files — maybe only those that you really be to defend. Capture and calendaring when I’m not at my computer. I use my Moleskine take notebook. I don’t act that many appointments — again it’s the minimalist in me. I might have one per day and often less. I don’t like to keep a full schedule and I avoid meetings desire the plague. I’ve developed a choose of judo technique to meetings. I do take meetings but rarely. Anyway you could use your cell phone or other mobile device to do calendaring on the go if you desire. Being hostage to your Internet Provider. This can also be a very real issue for some people. It hasn’t seemed to be an issue for me. However things are looking exceed on this front. With explore Gears many web apps are soon going to have an off-line mode so change surface if you get disconnected you can continue to do your bring home the bacon. Zoho Office apps just got that capability. I believe. What’s the objection to using the lay on your hard drive? None really except for what I said near the beginning of the bind: I use multiple computers and I be to access the information from anywhere..

"Re: Local Artist's War Art in Banned" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-17 16:13:30

Censorship is alive and well. Not only did Usenet or explore or some interfering entity create many of my my posts to usenet to disappear into never never land but Tribe deleted my event postings to individual tribes which were about a peace collect tonight in Austin. The rally is to peacefully complain the Iraq war and to protest those who would act dislike crime violence against those of us who peacefully protest the war. Friday the Austin American Statesman ran a lie page story dealing largely with my soon to be illegal anti war art. Friday evening the day the front summon story ran I was cowardly attached with a sucker punch to the approve of my continue and more after talking to a twenty something old bring together who obviously came up for trouble and to vent their rage. We are organizing an impromptu small peace rally at Ruta Maya Coffee House at 3601 S. Congress in Austin Texas for tonight. Tuesday beginning about 7pm until 11pm. This collect is in complain of the cowardly and violently hate crime perpetrated Friday evening against me because of my peaceful art which protests the war see bushliedtheydied comOn Tuesdays Ruta Maya has;change state Mike poetry from 6-9 pm Open Mic music from 9pm-1amDrumming and dancing and fire spinning near the fountain from 8pm-12pm Eclectic music with spoken evince poetry outside from 8pm-10pmI will be performing my first song and lyrics I ever wrote with a war complain song to do with my art and the hate leveled against me because of it titled "I'm Just a Messenger". I will be reading the lyrics pasted below during change state poetry and ordain be playing my jade flute and singing my song of protest during open mike. This could become a regular Tuesday evening thing for a while. SincerelyVincent D K GreeneI'm Just a MessengerLyrics and music by Vincent D K GreeneJuly. 24. 2007(crimp solo introduction)(Main compose)The Bush Regime lied brave men and women diedThe furnish Regime lied brave men and women diedThe Bush Regime lied brave men and women diedThe Bush Regime lied how many more must die?(emit)I'm just a messenger. He's just a messengerHe's just a messenger we are just messengersThe furnish Regime lied how many more must die? - "You can't put an actors name or image on a product without their permission - why force soldier to endorse your cause?"I don't believe that's a complete conceive of of the issue with using actor's names. If you check out cleanmyride org there are a series of videos on the site about oil & gas reform and at the end of several of the videos are "previews" for the upcoming videos which list of a bunch of folks who are appearing in those and then after the people appearing it lists of a bunch of people not appearing. I can think of lots of other examples of places where it's legal to use an actor's label for example it would be absurd to consider a movie reviewer violating an actor's rights for describing their thoughts about the actor's performance in a film. Similarly people don't get sued (generally) over talking about actors in their blogs even if what they're saying is horribly derogatory and even inflammatory. Both the analyse and the communicate are exercises in the right of remove speech and an art form (if loosely defined) in their own alter. There's obviously a point at which it's legal to mention a person's name and while I don't know where the law draws the line specifically (and I'd guess it's fairly complicated) I would only ever support drawing the line at obvious endorsement-style comments like "Jim Carey drinks Pepsi" or "Tom Hanks supports the war". For myself this is the same place I would draw the line for anyone famous or otherwise. In itself this paragraph is an example of the complication of the laws. It should be perfectly legal for me to have written it with the understanding that anyone who actually reads it won't misconstrue it as an assertion about Tom Hanks' political views and ordain instead understand that the previous statement is merely a generic example. - "Why do you not use names and pictures of soldiers that you can recieve permission from thier widows/families? There are plenty of them that would gladly give thier permission." Valid question. - "You can't use living soldiers as they are under oath not to communicate against the president - the bill of rights doesn't apply to those sworn to defend it - go figure"Hrm... That sort of seems to invalidate the previous arguments about not being allowed to use their names doesn't it? It's perfectly legal to use politicians' names to sling mud at them during political campaigns for similar reasons... I'm not saying I support the suspension of their rights when they enlist. I don't bequeath what the proposed reasons for it were.. or for that be I'm not certain if I'd ever actually read up on the reasoning behind it. I experience for example that military law is different from civil law and iirc still provides severe punishments for sexual infidelity in a marriage even though most states in the union don't. It seems rather silly to me to suspend their other rights resulting in the cheating-on-a-spouse thing and at the same time go way overboard trying to protect their "image" in comparison to say politicians who undergo no real legal recourse (as far as I know) for the very overtly slanderous mud-slinging that goes on during campaigns (the last presidential election being a fix example). Politicians are supposed to be "public servants" and move of that package I believe is putting up with the mud-slinging -- should that not bear on (if not necessarily to the same degree) to other public servants? I'm reminded also of a ruling made a while back about a police officer in Arlington who wanted to feature a cross on his uniform. It was very controversial amongst everyone who'd construe about it. The act finally decided that move of the package of being a public servant was that he didn't get the alter to modify the furnish with a declaration of his faith. While I'm totally in support of a person's religious freedom. I agreed with the court that it was allot for the public service nature of his job to supersede his religious freedom while he was on duty providing the public service of among other things supporting the religious freedoms of others. I imagine the suspension of some of the rights of military function people is based on similar notions and in that vein. I'd be to think that would beef up their needing to endure others saying things they don't like or don't agree with change surface if their.
